Hiddify Routing Rules: Limits, Modes & Alternatives

Learn how Hiddify's built-in route rules UI works, what it can edit, and where a full sing-box configuration or another advanced client offers more control.

Info

Hiddify v4.1.1 includes a built-in Route Rules interface for viewing the current rule list and editing rules exposed by the app.

This editor is more approachable than modifying raw configuration, but it is not the same as unrestricted access to every field in a complete sing-box configuration. The exact controls may also differ between app releases and platforms.

What are Routing Rules?

Routing Rules are a set of intelligent traffic management policies that determine how each network request is handled. Think of it as a traffic control system that guides different vehicles to different roads.

Key Benefits of Routing Rules

Performance Optimization

Direct access for local websites avoids detours and speeds up connection.

Privacy & Security

Sensitive apps (banking/payments) can form a direct connection, bypassing the proxy server.

Data Saving

Only route specific blocked traffic through the proxy to save expensive data quotas.

Flexible Control

Set custom access policies for specific applications, domains, or IP ranges.

How Routing Works in Hiddify

Hiddify presents routing through an in-app interface rather than requiring most users to edit raw JSON. In v4.1.1, the Route Rules area lets you review the rule list and edit the options the app exposes.

Core Features Supported

  • Rule List: View the routing rules available in the app.
  • Rule Editing: Change rule fields and actions exposed by the built-in editor.
  • App-Level Workflow: Make common routing changes without maintaining a complete sing-box configuration by hand.
  • Not Every sing-box Field Is Exposed: The editor only presents options supported by Hiddify’s interface.
  • Complex Config Structures: Advanced combinations may still require direct control of a full sing-box configuration.
  • Release Differences: Check the controls shown in your installed version rather than assuming every platform or release has identical options.

What if You Need More Routing Control?

Start with Hiddify’s built-in rule editor. If the condition, outbound action, or sing-box field you need is not available there, evaluate a client or workflow that exposes full configuration editing.

How to Choose?

Use Hiddify's built-in editor if...

  • The rule condition and action you need are visible in the app.
  • You prefer editing a rule list without maintaining raw sing-box JSON.
  • You want to keep subscription and routing management in the same client.

Evaluate another workflow if...

  • A required sing-box field is not exposed in Hiddify’s editor.
  • Your configuration depends on complex rule ordering or structures.
  • You need direct ownership of the complete generated configuration.

Before Switching Clients

1

Backup Subscription

Copy your subscription link from Hiddify Next.

2

Record the Requirement

Identify the exact rule condition or action missing from Hiddify.

3

Check Compatibility

Confirm another client supports both your subscription and required routing feature.

4

Test Safely

Import a copy, test the rule, and keep your current setup until it works.

FAQ

Does Hiddify support routing rules now?
Yes. Hiddify v4.1.1 includes a built-in Route Rules interface with a rule list and editing controls. It remains more limited than directly editing every field in a complete sing-box configuration.
Can I use Hiddify and other clients simultaneously?
**Technically yes, but not recommended.** Running two proxy clients can cause conflicts when they are configured to listen on the same local port or both try to control the system proxy or VPN interface. Compare each client's ports and disable automatic system integration in the client you are only testing.
Should I switch clients just to create one rule?
Try Hiddify's built-in editor first. Consider another client only when the specific condition, action, or configuration field you need is not exposed in your installed Hiddify version.

For help adding a profile before choosing a routing mode, read the Hiddify subscription import guide. More general answers are available in the Hiddify FAQ.
